AI Can't Work for Rajamouli
The decision shows how much importance Rajamouli is giving to the performances in the film. Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran are playing the main roles.
By: Priya Chowdhary Nuthalapti | 24 Aug 2026 12:07 AM ISTSS Rajamouli is known for his perfection and attention to detail. The director is reportedly taking the same approach with his upcoming film Varanasi. While AI dubbing is becoming common in the film industry, Rajamouli seems to be choosing human voices instead.
Varanasi is planned as a huge global project. The film is expected to be dubbed in around 50 languages and released in nearly 120 countries. This is a massive plan for an Indian film. Instead of depending completely on AI tools, the team is reportedly looking at real dubbing artists for different languages.
The decision shows how much importance Rajamouli is giving to the performances in the film. Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran are playing the main roles. Their expressions, emotions and personalities are expected to be important parts of the movie.
AI dubbing can make the process faster and easier. It can also reduce the time and effort needed to create different language versions. However, Rajamouli reportedly wants the voices to feel natural and match the emotions of the original performances.
For the director, dubbing does not appear to be just about changing one language into another. He seems to want audiences in every country to feel the same emotions that the original audience feels. Real artists can understand the scene and deliver the dialogue according to the mood of the character.
At the same time, this approach will be a major challenge for the team. Recording a film in 50 languages with human artists will require a lot of time, planning and supervision. Finding suitable voices for every character in every language will also be difficult.
Still, Rajamouli's reported decision is interesting at a time when AI is rapidly entering cinema. It shows that the filmmaker is not ready to compromise on important creative aspects for convenience.
Varanasi is currently being made on a grand scale, and the film is expected to arrive worldwide on April 7, 2027. If the dubbing plan is executed properly, audiences across different countries may get a more natural and emotional experience.
