Varanasi 2 Loading: Rajamouli Backs Out of Promise?
He’s now considering a different plan for Mahesh Babu starrer Varanasi if reports are to be believed.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 28 March 2026 3:10 PM ISTAce director SS Rajamouli had confirmed earlier, during the promotions of Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s RRR, that he would not be heading for a two-part film anytime soon. Staying true to that, he has released RRR only as a single-part movie. Then comes Varanasi, and during the film’s Hollywood interviews, the director stated that this is a single, standalone movie only. However, we are hearing reports that the success of “Dhurandhar” has changed reports.
Reportedly, director Aditya Dhar’s approach of shooting the entire 8 hours of the movie at the same time and releasing it in two parts within 3 months is said to have impressed SS Rajamouli as well. He’s now considering a different plan for Mahesh Babu starrer Varanasi if reports are to be believed. As he also shoots his films for almost 4-5 hours, but finally releases 3 hours of it, the director SS Rajamouli felt that even he would do the same thing, shooting 7 hours of content, and releasing it in two parts in theatres, in a short gap. While Rajamouli's backing out from his previous promise is yet to be confirmed, if Varanasi is split into two parts, another major doubt is now emerging.
While the initial decision, which was already announced to the world, confirms that Varanasi is hitting cinemas on April 7, 2027, now that they are considering the two-part idea, will they be able to carve out the 7 hours of content by the promised date? Only if the 7-hour content is ready, can they release Part 1 on the announced date, and Part 2 by another three months' gap. Maybe Rajamouli or his team will jump into the scene and conclude this now.
