Sukumar Escaped, But What About Buchi Babu?

By: Tupaki Desk | 19 May 2026 5:56 PM ISTIt is a common practice in Telugu films for rural dramas to have significant skin show from the female leads. This is primarily done in the name of lesser moderate clothing choices in the old ages in the rural pockets or perhaps even a strategy used by filmmakers to paint it as such to excite a section of audience.
Earlier Sukumar followed a similar template for Rangasthalam and Pushpa. Both the films have significant skin show from the female leads, Samantha and Rashmika Mandanna respectively.
But this was cleverly engineered and presented on screen by Sukumar so that not many people criticised him or his work for objectifying the female leads. He is senior enough to understand the nuances and act accordingly.
But in the case of his disciple, Buchi Babu it appears that this strategy has not gone very well with regard to the trailer for Peddi which was released yesterday.
Immediately after the release of the trailer, there has been round of criticism on which Buchi for overplaying the glamour card of Janhvi. Many people are of the opinion that Janhvi Kapoor was intentionally presented with unreasonably high skin show in the trailer.
This is very early criticism and does not have any logical banking as the film has not released yet, and we have to watch the film on big screens before pushing such narratives. But at the end of the day, people are bound to have opinions and they’re doing so with the trailer as they feel Janhvi has been confined to a skin show doll more than an actress.
Sukumar was able to engineer these episodes cleverly in his previous films and he got away with it. But it appears that Buchi is not so lucky yet and he needs to find the perfect balance with Janhvi in Peddi, else things could go south. Either way, we will get more clarity on this when the film releases on June 4
