Maverick Director Sukumar is one of the biggest names in Indian cinema now after having delivered a box office monster in the form of Pushpa 2. He is one of the most celebrated commercial Cinema director in the Indian film industry now, and he is enjoying a whole lot of fame and attention.

However, things weren’t always as straightforward for Sukumar as he found it tough going in the middle section of his career. Particularly, 1 Nenokkadine had a very detrimental impact on his career, it seems.

In his latest interaction with the US audience at the promotional event of Ram Charan’s Game Changer, Sukumar made a shocking statement. He rolled back to the time when he almost decided to quit films, and be done with it.

“After the failure of 1 Nenokkadine, I quite literally wanted to quit films and be done with this journey. Hadn’t it been for the strong performance of the film in the United States? I would have certainly quit making films. It is only the encouragement that you gave me with that film, kept me going all along, thank you for that.” Sukumar said.

The very fact that Sukumar was so emotionally disconnected after the Mahesh Babu film failed miserably at the domestic box office shows the kind of impact it hard on him at a professional and personal level.

Leave for everyone, Sukumar recovered rather quickly, and whatever he has been touching ever since has been worth its weight in gold. This is the kind of comeback arc that we would expect from a cinematic genius like Sukumar.
