Suriya's Rs 10 Crore Donation Wins Hearts Beyond Box Office
From helping Sri Lankan refugees to offering mentorship programs like "Vazhikatigal" and scholarships through Project Vidhai, Agaram has a wide-ranging impact.
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 May 2025 12:04 PM ISTIt is rare for a box office success to translate into tangible change, but Suriya has done just that. In addition to his on-screen charisma, the Tamil actor and his wife Jyothika are well-known for their strong charitable work. His recent charitable donation of Rs 10 crore from his movie earnings astounded social media and received widespread praise.
The donation was made to the Agaram Foundation, which Suriya established in 2006. The foundation has dedicated almost twenty years to promoting education for disadvantaged students in Tamil Nadu. From helping Sri Lankan refugees to offering mentorship programs like "Vazhikatigal" and scholarships through Project Vidhai, Agaram has a wide-ranging impact.
In its first week of release, Suriya's most recent movie, Retro, which was directed by Karthik Subbaraj and came out on May 1, has already crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. Co-starring Pooja Hegde and featuring Shriya in a special number, the romantic action drama received mixed reviews, particularly in Telugu regions, but still scored big at the box office. Produced by Suriya and Jyothika for Rs 65 crore, the film’s success made the Rs 10 crore donation even more meaningful - a moment shared with the film’s unit and captured in now-viral photos.
Up next, Suriya is filming Suriya 45, directed by RJ Balaji and co-written with Rathna Kumar. With Trisha in the lead and a strong supporting cast, the film is currently in production in Pollachi. While fans wait for updates on this exciting project, Suriya’s off-screen gesture continues to inspire many far beyond cinema.
