Suriya & Karthi Face Big Trouble Over Digital Rights
Earlier reports suggested financial hurdles delayed the releases, but now the problem seems to be missing OTT deals.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 16 Sept 2025 5:49 PM ISTOTT rights are now the lifeline of every film, deciding when and how audiences watch. Suriya and Karthi, two of Kollywood’s top stars, are caught in this storm as both Karuppu and Sardar 2 remain without digital buyers, even though shooting is complete. Fans are left waiting, unsure when these films will finally reach theatres.
Earlier reports suggested financial hurdles delayed the releases, but now the problem seems to be missing OTT deals. Without streaming platforms on board, producers can’t confirm release dates, leaving audiences frustrated. The hiatus between production completion and public release has fans speculating endlessly about what’s holding the films back, as Suriya is known for making movies shoot fast.
Adding to the tension, Suriya’s other project, Suriya 46, is with Telugu director Venky Atluri and produced by Sithara Entertainments. The film stars Suriya and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles, has already secured OTT rights, and could release digitally before Karuppu. Social media is buzzing with criticism aimed at Dream Warrior Pictures, questioning their ability to manage big projects. Fans are urging Suriya to rethink future collaborations with the production house.
While Karthi may weather this delay with little harm, Suriya’s fans see it as a rare misstep. For a star of his stature to face hurdles in selling digital rights is unusual, raising questions about planning and strategy in the industry. For now, audiences can only wait and hope Karuppu and Sardar 2 finally get the releases they deserve.
