Alia Bhatt's Flop Affected Other Actresses: Tapsee

Actress Taapsee Pannu has spoken openly about the difficulties faced by women in the film industry. While promoting her latest project Gandhari, she discussed how the failure of a female-led movie can affect not only one actress but also other women who are trying to lead big films.

Taapsee explained that female actors often face greater pressure when they headline expensive or action-oriented movies. She said that producers and investors quickly become doubtful when such a film does not perform well at the box office.

Talking about the situation, Taapsee said, "If you put money into it, make it a big film, and it doesn't work, then how will anyone invest money again? I have only one question. The big, male-driven film that money is invested in—does it always have an impeccable storyline?"

According to the actress, male-led movies and female-led movies are often judged by different standards. She feels that a male star can have a film that is not perfect and still get another opportunity. However, women are expected to deliver much more when they lead a big project.

Taapsee explained, "If so much money is invested in a female-driven film, there is an expectation that, forget 19 or 20, you have to deliver 21. You cannot go wrong."

She also shared that the impact of one major female-led failure can be seen in conversations with investors. According to her, several projects involving women can suddenly become difficult to finance.

When asked if she personally experienced this after Alia Bhatt's Alpha did not perform as expected, Taapsee replied, "Yes. Every year it happens."

She further explained how investors sometimes make general decisions after one unsuccessful film. "These days, female-driven films are not working. If such a big superstar's film is not working, then what will happen to the rest? That's why we won't make them now."

At the same time, Taapsee pointed out that the opposite can also happen. When a female-led film becomes successful, producers immediately become more interested in similar stories.

Her latest film Gandhari is currently streaming on Netflix. Taapsee continues to choose projects that give her strong and important roles.
