It looks like the ticket hike issue regarding the special memo issued by the Telangana Government is likely to cause further embarrassment for Megastar Chiranjeevi’s latest blockbuster, Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu. Already, Telangana HC expressed concern over the state government issuing a special memo when their earlier judgement restricts the Govt from giving a special hike to ticket prices. Here comes the next.

An advocate, Paduri Srinivasa Reddy, filed a writ petition that by taking up the special hike memo, Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu raked up nearly ₹48 crores in excess revenue, and requested the Court to recover that money from the producers. Hearing this petition, the Telangana High Court instructed the GST officials to submit the relevant revenue details for the same. The case will be further heard on February 3rd, and the court might even order the recovery of that money, say legal experts.

As per the petitioner, the special memo issued in violation of an earlier court order resulted in enabling ticket hikes upto ₹600 (including GST) for special shows, and ₹50 in single screens and ₹100 in multiplexes for a week, resulting in ₹42 crores excess collection within the state of Telangana. Currently the petitioner made the likes of ticket platforms like BookMyShow and distributor Dil Raju as respondents in this petition.

We have to see if the Telangana High Court will take away the excess ₹42 crores collection from Mana Shankara Varaprasad’s final tally, which might be a little more than ₹300 crores in its full run.
