The Telugu box office is witnessing a very peculiar situation as not, even a single film is able to bring the audience to theatre in numbers. Even the recently released films have failed to generate any traction.

February has turned out to be a disastrous month for theatres across the Telugu states, leaving exhibitors deeply concerned about survival. The much anticipated Funky failed to impress audiences and ended up as a major disappointment at the box office.

Despite initial buzz, the film could not sustain interest beyond the opening shows, resulting in poor collections across regions.

Adding to the worries, Couple Friendly delivered a below par performance. While it managed to draw a small section of urban youth to multiplexes, its reach remained limited.

Single screen theatres, especially in B and C centers, reported extremely low occupancy. Many shows were either cancelled or ran with minimal audiences, leading to mounting losses for theatre owners.

Trade analysts say the current situation is alarming. With no major star driven releases and weak word of mouth for existing films, footfalls have drastically reduced.

Several theatres are struggling to attract enough viewers to even justify running shows today and tomorrow. Unless a strong content driven or star powered release arrives soon, February could end as one of the weakest months for Telugu cinema in recent times.
