Are Movies Alone Responsible for Growing Violence in Society?
Following this incident, many people on social media have started discussing the possible influence of violence shown in movies.
By: Priya Chowdhary Nuthalapti | 1 Nov 2026 9:15 AM ISTViolence has become a common part of Telugu cinema. Whether it is a film made by a big star or a small hero, many movies are now filled with fights, bloodshed, revenge and brutal action scenes.
Even films that are promoted as family entertainers or love stories are including violent sequences. This raises an important question. Why are filmmakers depending so much on violence to entertain audiences.
The recent incident in Rapthadu, Anantapur district has once again started a discussion about violence in films. A Class 10 girl was attacked with an electric saw inside a school classroom. Another student was also injured while trying to protect her. The incident has shocked people and raised serious concerns about student safety.
Following this incident, many people on social media have started discussing the possible influence of violence shown in movies.
Many Telugu films show heroes fighting dozens of people by taking revenge and using extreme violence to solve problems. Such scenes are always shown as heroic moments. Background music and powerful dialogues make these violent acts look exciting. But this it really called heroism in all aspects. Even now a days heroes are being shown as someone who always smokes. There will be a disclaimer but still what is it even trying to convey.
Meanwhile it would be wrong to say that films alone are responsible for real-life crimes. There is no confirmed evidence that the Rapthadu incident happened because of movie influence. The accused person's motives and other factors must be investigated properly.
At the same time, filmmakers should think about how violence is presented on screen. Showing violence as entertainment without explaining its consequences can raise concerns especially among young viewers.
Telugu cinema has always given audiences beautiful family dramas, emotional love stories and meaningful entertainers.
Films like these can connect with people without depending on excessive violence.
Cinema has a powerful influence on society, but it is also a reflection of society. Filmmakers need not stop making action films, but they should balance entertainment with responsibility. If it happens then there can be a big relief for Tollywood as well as audience.
