Tharun Bhascker Calls Yearly Filmmakers “Not Human”
In the movie world, some directors run like marathoners, others sprint like sprinters, and Tharun Bhascker is proudly on the slow track.

The man who gave us Pelli Choopulu isn’t in any hurry to flood theatres with back-to-back movies. He believes films should breathe, not just release. Recently, during a casual chat with director Vikranth, who somehow manages to deliver one movie every single year, Tharun’s genuine disbelief turned into one of the funniest industry moments online.
The discussion started off harmlessly, about filmmaking styles and schedules, but things got spicy when Vikranth revealed he starts writing his next story while the previous one is still in post-production. Tharun couldn’t take it anymore and blurted out, “Boss, I take four years to make one movie. I’m a human, man. You are not human!” The line instantly became a meme moment and a soft roast rolled into one. People loved how real it sounded, half admiration, half shock.
Tharun, who’s now working on the Telugu remake of Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, titled Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi, said he prefers space between projects to stay mentally fresh. He joked that switching genres so quickly would fry his brain. His point was simple: movies aren’t factory products. Creativity, according to him, needs rest, reflection, and the occasional chai break. “If I rush, I lose the fun,” he admitted.
That small talk between the two directors became a mini-masterclass in filmmaking attitude. One side loves speed and deadlines, the other loves patience and precision. Tharun clearly belongs to the “slow-cooked cinema” gang, and he’s fine with that. Maybe that’s what keeps his work authentic. After all, not every artist wants to race, some just want to enjoy the ride, one thoughtful film at a time.
