Not every laugh comes easily. That’s something director Tharun Baskar made clear when he recently opened up about the challenges of writing comedy, something he's been known for since Pellichupulu and Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi. Despite his early hits, his last outing Keeda Cola, a crime comedy that fizzled at the box office two years ago, was a reminder that making people laugh consistently isn’t a walk in the park.

Speaking at the pre-release event of Badmashulu in Hyderabad, where he appeared as a guest alongside director Mallikram, Tharun got candid. “Writing comedy scenes is not easy. There’s real difficulty behind it,” he said. Coming from someone who carved a name with breezy humor, that honesty hit differently.

Badmashulu, directed by Shankar Cheguri, stars Mahesh Chintala, Vidyasagar, Balagam Sudhakar Reddy, Muralidhar Goud, Kavita Srirangam, and Deeksha Koteshwar. The film, which blends comedy with a message, is all set to release on the 6th of this month. “I really hope this film succeeds. It looks like it brings both laughs and meaning,” Tharun added with genuine hope.

In an industry where comedy is often brushed off as the ‘easy’ genre, Tharun’s words stand out. The man behind many iconic one-liners reminds us that good comedy demands heart, timing, and more effort than most imagine.
