Star Heroes Negligence Become a Major Challenge for Small Films

The Telugu film industry is once again facing confusion over movie release dates. Several big-ticket films are occupying important dates, while many small and medium-budget movies are finding it difficult to plan their theatrical releases.

Usually, Tier-1 and Tier-2 heroes get priority when major festival and holiday dates are discussed. When a big star film blocks a date, smaller films have to look for other options. The problem becomes bigger when the release plans of big films keep changing.

Small films depend heavily on release dates. They need enough theatres, screens and audience attention to recover their investment. If a major film suddenly announces a release date, smaller movies may have to move out or face reduced shows.

A similar situation is reportedly being seen around some of the upcoming big films. The Paradise, starring Nani and directed by Srikanth Odela, has already gone through several discussions regarding its release plans. With strong business expectations around the film, distributors and exhibitors are also watching the date closely.

Another major film facing release-date uncertainty is Prabhas’ Fauzi. According to current industry talk, its December 3 release is looking difficult. An official announcement regarding the release plan is expected.

The team is reportedly reviewing the footage completed so far and planning the next shooting schedule. Two important action sequences are still said to be pending. Reports suggest that these sequences could require around 30 to 40 days of combined shooting. Some patchwork may also remain after that.

If December 3 does not happen, January 26 is being discussed as another possible option. However, the team is reportedly not rushing to announce a date. The plan is said to be to complete the entire shoot first and then lock the final release date.

There is also uncertainty around Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi. Any change in its release plans could create further changes in the release calendar.

The biggest concern is that when major films keep changing dates, smaller movies are affected the most. Their producers have fewer options and may have to compete for theatres at short notice.

The coming months could therefore see several changes in the Telugu release calendar. Until the major films officially confirm their dates, smaller producers may have to wait before finalising their own releases.
