The Real Story Behind ‘The Paradise’ Story

‘The Paradise’ is the story of a nomadic community that is newly named ‘Savari’ by director Srikanth Odela, and they fight for their rights in the erstwhile Hyderabad during the 80s. While that’s the story being told by Odela, there is a real-life connection to this, and the director has carefully camouflaged that, such that there will be no legal issues.

There is this community called Shikaris who have come from Rajasthan to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh during the independent era. Later, they were not recognised as any special caste, and they have lived like nomads without any voting or other rights. They used to indulge in bootlegging of liquor and other illegal activities. Later on, after many fights, the community was recognised as OBC while the community asked for SC/ST status. Right now, some of that community are living in Adilabad and some in Kurnool. Clearing out those references, now Odela’s story of this community’s struggle for recognition is set against the 80s Secunderabad backdrop.

Well, whether there will be real incidents and characters portrayed in the film or not is unknown, and there are only two days left for the truth to come out. As the film is officially certified A, the tickets for premieres on Wednesday evening will be opened shortly, it seems.
