As was known for a long time, if a particular film clicks, many films will come up in the same direction. When Rangasthalam came, many such followed. Similarly, after the success of Kantara, many such movies are coming up, where there will be a commercial plot point with a divine Hindu religious angle. If we look at some of the big films that are coming up now, they all have this divine theme as a core element, while they are not fully devotional films.

This week’s release, Nagabandham, is a story that deals with the temple and the powers of Anantha Padmanabha Swamy. Then comes the upcoming film, Raviteja’s Irumudi, which has the theme of Ayappa Deeksha and others. Of course, big-ticket movies like SS Rajamouli’s Varanaasi deal with multiple elements like the Rama and Ravana war sequence and much more; time-travelling is the major plot there. Similarly, Trivikram’s upcoming film “God of War” deals directly with the story of Karthikeya, who is the commander of the army of the gods.

However, some feel that the divine touch is getting over the board in Tollywood because almost every other week, even small films are also trying to explore the same theme only. If a motif is recurring and overused, surely that makes the design boring, and that’s what happening with films too. Only if divine touch is used in the right way, films work, but not every film that has divine touch will impress the audience.
