5-Star Hotel Bills Hurting Tollywood Producers

Back then, when some star heroines came up with their large entourage and demanded five-star and 7-star hotels for stay, it burned the pockets of producers. Though its happening even now, there is also another area where this star-hotel culture is slowly pushing producers into investing unwanted money, thus eating away their profits.

Gone are the days when all the success meets and movie meets used to happen at Prasad Labs, where the total cost of hosting the event is less than ₹75K-1 lakh. While Prasad Lab charges ₹25-35k for two hours, the rest of the decoration and anchor remuneration is used to add to that. But if the same event is to be done on a large scale, usually at Park Hyatt or other star hotels, producers are spending around 6-9 lakhs per event. This includes hiring the ballroom space, paying for 100 plates of food, sound and lighting, stage decor, seating, paying the anchor and other performers at the event. At the same time, hiring suite rooms, changing rooms, and other hotel bills for the stars are getting added up too. Even if the event is done at theatres, the charge is getting huge.

With almost 3-4 press meets done before the release, and 3-4 success meets after the release, even for a flop film, these costs are touching almost ₹75 lakhs to 1 crore already. Now, for a film made on a 5-10 crore budget, this is a huge burden, because saving that crore is a crore earned. However, to make sure that the audience believes that they are grandly celebrating their success, some producers are not hesitating to spend that much money. Well, in the end, it’s hurting them.
