February BO: A Dry And Dull Period For Tollywood?
Many films were released in February, but none of them created real excitement among the audience. Small and medium budget movies failed to pull crowds to theatres.
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 March 2026 11:52 AM ISTThe February season is usually regarded as a dry season for the Telugu cinema, and this is again turning out to be the case as the previous month has been very mental for the film industry.
February turned out to be a very disappointing month for Tollywood. According to a reports, the Telugu film industry struggled badly at the box office during February 2026. After a strong and successful January, trade experts expected the momentum to continue. But that did not happen.
Many films were released in February, but none of them created real excitement among the audience. Small and medium budget movies failed to pull crowds to theatres.
Even films that had decent promotions and some pre release buzz could not survive beyond the first weekend. As a result, theatre occupancy remained very low across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Vishwak’s Funky and director Gunasekhar’s Euphoria became disasters. Santosh Shobhan’s Couple Friendly could do reasonably well in A centres. Hey Balwanth turned out to be a dud as well.
Exhibitors and distributors are said to be worried because several shows were cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Normally, February is considered a slow season because of school and college exams.
However, the situation became worse this year because there was no big star film or strong content driven movie to attract family audiences.
Only one or two films managed average collections, but there was no clear hit or blockbuster. This has made February one of the weakest months for Tollywood in recent times.
Now, the industry is looking at March releases with hope. Trade analysts believe that a strong commercial entertainer or a big hero film could help bring audiences back to theatres and improve the overall box office performance.
