If an actress was given the role of a mother to slightly older children, many people felt that her heroine career was almost over. Mother roles were seen as a major change in an actress's image.
But things are slowly changing in the Telugu film industry. Today, even young heroines are ready to play mothers if the story and character are strong. They are no longer looking at the age of the character alone. Good content and an interesting role are becoming more important.
A recent example is actress Srinidhi Shetty. After entering the Telugu film industry, in her upcoming film Adarsha Kutumbham being seen as the mother of two grown-up children. When an anchor asked her about accepting a mother role so early in her career, she gave an interesting answer.
She said that if the same question had been asked a few years ago, she might have thought about it seriously. But cinema has changed today. The stories are changing, the content is changing and even the audience is changing.
This change can also be seen in the choices of several actresses. Many heroines are now willing to take up roles that were earlier considered risky for their careers. They understand that playing a mother does not automatically mean that they have to stop doing glamorous or lead roles in future films.
Earlier, actresses were often worried that a mother character would affect their chances of getting heroine roles. Because of this fear, many actresses avoided such characters even when the role was important to the story.
But today's audience seems more interested in the quality of the character than the label attached to it. If an actress gets a powerful role, she can still continue to play different types of characters.
The changing trend shows that Telugu cinema is slowly moving away from old image-based thinking. Being a mother on screen does not necessarily mean the end of a heroine's career anymore.
