Despite enormous budgets and high expectations, a number of expensive movies have failed to turn a profit throughout the years, placing producers in a financial bind.
The following are a few prominent flops that did not even recoup 40% of their investment:
Double Ismart, which recovered by an alarmingly low 22%
NTR Kathanayakudu collapses, recovering only 28%
Almost crawling to a 31% recovery, Liger
Bholaa Shankar's terrible 33% comeback
Acharya, which ended up recovering only 35%
Radhe Shyam is having trouble recovering by 40%.
Ram Charan's recently released Game Changer appears to be avoiding the fate of its predecessors, which gives optimism amidst this desolate terrain. The movie is doing well at the box office right now, which gives trade analysts and moviegoers cause for optimism.
Game Changer's consistent performance may portend a change for Tollywood's high-budget productions. But it will take time to determine whether this winning run is permanent or merely a passing fad.
