The Indian film industry has seen a major shift this year when it comes to box office success. For the first time in many years, Tollywood has failed to produce a single ₹500 crore grosser even though Telugu cinema usually leads the race every year. Instead, Bollywood, Sandalwood and Kollywood have taken the spotlight with big blockbusters.

This year, five films have crossed the ₹500 crore gross mark worldwide. Among them, Bollywood has delivered three films by proving its strong comeback after a few slow years.

The Hindi films that entered this elite club are Chhaava, Dhurandhar and Saiyaara. These movies attracted large audiences with powerful storytelling, strong performances, and wide theatrical releases across India and overseas.

From Sandalwood, Kannada cinema made a massive impact with Kantara Chapter 1. The film benefited from strong cultural roots, intense drama, and the huge success of its first part. It performed exceptionally well not only in Karnataka but also in other states and international markets. Kollywood also joined the ₹500 crore club this year with Coolie.

What stands out most is the absence of Tollywood from this list. Usually, Telugu cinema dominates the ₹500 crore club with big stars and grand productions. However, this year, several expected big releases are postponed and now all eyes are on 2026.

For now, 2025 belongs to Bollywood, Sandalwood, and Kollywood, marking a rare and interesting change in Entertainment history.
