Release dates are becoming more of a guess than commitments. Big films are getting announced with confidence, but very few are landing on time, on the said date. And it’s not just one or two. It’s across the industry.

Even someone like Nani, who was known for clockwork consistency, is now facing delays with The Paradise. The film has already moved from a summer plan to August, and now even that looks doubtful. It’s the same story everywhere. Ram Charan’s Peddi has already been pushed multiple times, with no clarity over the final date. Jr NTR’s film with Prashanth Neel has finally skipped the 2026 speculations and locked a 2027 release date. No one knows how long that would stay strong. But do you know why films are missing out on dates like this? Let’s have a look at the issues plaguing Tollywood now.

In fact, schedules are being planned quite well. But in reality, they’re not being followed. Directors are taking more time than ever to wrap a movie. The working style has completely changed. Earlier, 15–20 minutes of output in a day was normal. Now it’s down to 4–5 minutes. More detailing, more retakes, more perfection in the name of quality, are actually stretching timelines badly.

At the same time, Dates are becoming a bigger problem than budgets. Combination scenes featuring multiple stars are the biggest headache. If one actor misses a schedule, everything collapses. And getting fresh dates is not easy anymore. Most actors are juggling multiple films, related brand works, and other appearances.

Then comes the financial side. Not for the big-ticket movies, but for mid-range projects, as the funding has slowed down. Financiers are more cautious now, due to which, money isn’t flowing like before. That directly impacts shoot continuity as the industry works on a daily payment model.

Add to that union pressures. If payments are delayed, work will stop. No question of any negotiations or any buffer time. And then the unpredictable hit comes from location issues, as acquiring locations for shooting is always a headache. Now comes the Health problems of heroes and heroines, due to which last-minute cancellations happen. One missed day by these stars easily becomes a lost week for a producer.

Back in the day, the so-called best classic commercial hits were made in under just 50-60 days only. That too, within two continuous schedules, they used to wrap the total work. While chasing better quality movies, it looks like Tollywood slowly lost control over time itself.
