In general, the summer season is considered the best time for movie releases in Tollywood. Schools and colleges are closed, and holidays bring more audiences to theatres. But this year, Summer 2025 felt unusually quiet at the box office. Even though May had several holidays, there were no major film releases.
The biggest release during this summer was HIT 3, but apart from that, there weren’t any large-scale films. This surprised many in the industry and among movie lovers. The lack of big films during such a prime season raised one important question: Why did producers skip the holiday season?
One of the reasons is the change in strategy by filmmakers. Many are now avoiding the summer rush and are focusing on a better release window post summer. June and July are now looking more exciting for Telugu cinema fans.
From the first week of June, every week will have at least one major film release. Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life is set to hit screens in early June. There’s also Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s much delayed Hari Hara Veera Mallu now confirmed for June 12.
In the third week, Dhanush and Nagarjuna’s bilingual film Kubera will release. The following week, Manchu Vishnu’s pan-India project Kannappa, featuring Prabhas in a key role, will take the spotlight. To top it off, Vijay Deverakonda’s much awaited movie Kingdom is scheduled for release on July 4.
With such strong content lined up, the real box office heat is expected to begin after summer. So even though May was slow, the coming weeks promise action, excitement, and a busy time for theatres.
