Tollywood Facing Writer Crisis? Or This Crisis?

Every time a big film flops or fails to excite the audience, a lot of complaints get written in the book about the directors. Especially, some talk comes out that Tollywood needs good writing now in terms of new-age movies. Now that “The Paradise” hasn’t excited critics, surely the talk is back that Tollywood needs strong writing. But that doesn’t mean the direction is good in that film. So what does Tollywood need now?

Yes, it comes down to writing always, and also the blame is put on creative filmmakers who are writing and directing themselves. However, barring the likes of SS Rajamouli, almost all the star directors are writing themselves, or hiring a big team of writers, both experienced and inexperienced, to get the film written. But then, some of their films are clicking, some not. The catch is that, more than the specialised or senior writers, here the majority of the crisis is coming from ‘thinking’ itself.

When Malayalam and Tamil folks are thinking something new and out of the box always, here, even a small hero with a small budget is thinking about wielding guns like KGF and #OG and killing the goons. Only when this thinking improves, surely the writing improves, and then the overall storytelling through direction, music and other departments will improve.

But when a small hero who has just scored one hit film to that of a big star is thinking about just killing the goons, bloodshed, item songs and dance numbers, there’s no point in discussing that writing is affecting the growth of Tollywood. It’s thinking!
