The first half of the year gave the Telugu audience several interesting films and successful releases. The industry saw good collections, hit movies and strong audience response during different phases of the year.
June, July and August were particularly good months for Telugu cinema. Several films performed well and brought some energy back to the industry. Mainly Lenin scored big blockbuster for Akhil in August month. With back-to-back releases and positive talk, there was hope that the last four months of second half of 2026 would also continue the same momentum.
However, September has brought a different picture.
Several films arrived in theatres with good expectations, but most of them failed to get the expected response from the audience. Movies such as Romanchakam, I Am Game, Ramba Urvashi Menaka, Sardar 2, Epic, Mahendragiri Varahi and Happy Journey could not make a major impact at the box office.
Some dubbed films managed to get a moderate response, especially in multiplexes and urban centres. But overall, September has not given the industry the strong results that were expected.
Among the Telugu releases, Nani's The Paradise has been the major talking point. The film opened strongly and showed good momentum, particularly in the Nizam region. However, trade discussions suggest that recovering the investment in some other regions could be difficult. The film's overall performance will become clearer as its theatrical run continues.
So, September has ended up as a disappointing month for Tollywood, with The Paradise standing out from most of the other releases.
The bigger question is now about the remaining months of 2026.
October, November and December do not currently appear to have a large number of major Telugu releases that can create huge excitement among audiences. Trivikram's Adarsha Kutumbam is one of the notable films expected during this period. Apart from such releases, many of the major films are currently lined up for January. The first half and the June-August period gave the industry good hope, but the later part of the year needs stronger releases to maintain that momentum.
Will October, November and December surprise the audience with unexpected hits? Or will Tollywood have to wait until January for the next big wave? The answer will be known only after the remaining releases hit the theatres.
