Now and then, a light, feel-good topic trends “which star daughters-in-law can cook?”. And the usual names pop up. The hottest bahus of Tollywood are none other than Namrata Shirodkar, Upasana Kamineni, Sneha Reddy and Sobhita Dhulipala at the moment. Many wonder if these busiest ladies, of them, one runs a billionaire empire every day, one has business, one is an actress, and if they cook at home.

Guess what, all of them are known to enjoy cooking when they find time. Not as a routine duty, but as a personal choice. However, cooking is being projected as a skill attached to daughters-in-law. Almost like a checklist. Knowing how to cook and being expected to cook are two very different things. These women have their own careers, identities, and lifestyles. If they step into the kitchen, it’s because they want to, not because they have to.

Also, feminists ask why this conversation is always about women. Because if we’re talking about Tollywood families, there are men who cook too. Ram Charan, for example, is known to be a very good cook. And he enjoys it. Even Chiranjeevi is known for making very good dosas. Other stars never come out, but are actually very good cooks. Venaktesh’s daughter once revealed how his father and brother Rana make some baking dishes.

Cooking isn’t gendered. It’s a life skill. Sometimes even therapy. But somewhere, the narrative still leans towards celebrating women for something that is casually expected from them. While praising women for being the greatest cooks, hope even men do that often.
