Thanks to SS Rajamouli, our filmmakers got the courage to think big and cater to the nationwide audience. While Rajamouli conquered the country and moved on to the international market with 'RRR', a lot of Telugu films became pan-Indian hits. 'Pushpa' became a rage across the nation and even 'Karthikeya 2' got unexpected collections in the North.
The quality of content was very much visible and it was 'RRR' who made it to the Top 5 highest collecting films in India last year from Tollywood. It received huge international acclaim too and won several prestigious awards as well. Interestingly, not one Telugu film was spotted in the Top 5 highest collecting films of 2023.
Unlike the past 2-3 years, it was Bollywood who dominated the list. Especially, this is the year of Shah Rukh Khan and the Baadshah of Bollywood made a spectacular comeback proving everyone that he is the biggest star of Indian cinema even today. While 'Pathaan' became the first Hindi film to gross 1000 crores, he arrived in September with 'Jawan' and broke his own record by minting nearly 1200 crores at the box office.
Sunny Deol's 'Gaddar 2' was the blockbuster which no one expected. The nostalgia worked in the movie's favour and the North Indians flocked to the theatres to watch the second part of 'Gadar'. The film shocked everyone by collecting around 600 crores. Superstar Rajnikanth proved his stardom to each and everyone of his doubters by getting more than 600 crores with 'Jailer'. Interestingly, the film which stood in the first position is Vijay's 'Leo'. The film is doing opened with huge expectations which made the film to register record numbers on the first day. It grossed a lot of money and despite the bad talk, the Tamil audience are watching it due to their love for Vijay.
It can be said that none of the big heroes like Mahesh Babu, NTR, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun released their movies this year. While senior heroes like Balayya and Chiru delivered 100 crore grossing films, they are confined to Telugu states. Prabhas disappointed with 'Adipurush' but he still has the chance to break records with 'Salaar' which is arriving at the end of December. It looks like Tollywood is going to have a blockbuster 2024.
