The United States president Donald Trump imposed 100% tariff on foreign films and thus has triggered a serious reaction from the Telugu film industry.

Popular Telugu producer TG Vishwa Prasad, who heads People Media Factory, recently spoke about the new “Trump movie tariff” and how it may affect Indian films in the U.S.

He explained that a sudden increase in tariffs or taxes on Indian movies being released overseas could make distribution and screening more expensive. This would directly impact producers and distributors who plan big international releases.

Vishwa Prasad pointed out that Telugu films have built a strong market in the U.S. over the past decade, with blockbusters collecting millions of dollars.

Many production houses carefully design strategies keeping U.S. box office revenue in mind. If tariffs rise, ticket prices might go up, which could reduce audiences, especially for medium-range films.

He stressed that large-scale movies with star power may survive because fans will still watch them, but smaller films could struggle to find buyers. This may also affect the confidence of producers who invest heavily, expecting good returns from overseas markets.

Vishwa Prasad urged the government and industry bodies to carefully study the issue and take steps to protect the growth of Telugu cinema abroad, while also balancing trade rules.
