Upasana Kamineni Takes New Role

Upasana Kamineni Konidela has taken up a new responsibility as Director – Projects at Apollo Hospitals. She will be involved in the planning and development of hospital projects as Apollo Hospitals expands its healthcare network across India.

In her new role, Upasana will work closely with the Apollo leadership, doctors, clinical teams and project partners. Her work will focus on developing new hospitals, expanding existing facilities and upgrading hospitals to meet the changing needs of patients.

A major focus of her role will be improving the overall experience of patients and their families. This includes making hospital spaces easier to understand and navigate. Clear signs, better wayfinding and well-planned patient areas will be part of the projects under her responsibility.

She will also work with project teams to improve coordination and planning from the early design stage until a hospital becomes operational. Better project management, reporting and common design standards across Apollo facilities will also be among the key areas of focus.

Apollo Hospitals is currently working on a major expansion programme with an estimated project cost of around ₹8,600 crore. This includes nearly ₹1,565 crore worth of brownfield expansion projects at existing hospitals.

The expansion will cover both established markets and new cities where demand for healthcare services is growing. Apollo's plans include projects in major cities such as Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Other locations mentioned in the expansion plans include Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore, Guwahati and Ranchi, among others.

The exact projects and budgets that will come under Upasana's responsibility will be decided by Apollo Hospitals.

The expansion is aimed at making advanced healthcare more accessible to people in different parts of India. New and upgraded hospitals can also create employment opportunities for doctors, nurses, technicians and other healthcare professionals.

Apollo also plans to connect hospital services with preventive healthcare and early diagnosis. The larger goal is to help people identify health problems earlier and receive quality treatment closer to where they live.

Speaking about her new responsibility, Upasana said the vision of her grandfather, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, was to make world-class healthcare available to people in India. She said she wants to take that vision forward through the hospitals being built and improved.

Upasana also highlighted the importance of human-friendly hospital design. According to her, patients should be able to move around hospitals without confusion, while families should feel comfortable and supported. She also wants healthcare professionals to have well-designed spaces that help them provide better care.

With Apollo's expansion plans, Upasana's new role will focus on combining better hospital infrastructure, easier patient experiences and quality healthcare across the group's growing network.
