No Trolls, No Memes: What’s Wrong With Ustaad?
When Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh was released, the expectations were extreme.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 16 April 2026 5:40 PM ISTWhen Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh was released, the expectations were extreme. But with the content carved by Harish Shankar being brutal, all the Big expectations and massive hype led to trolling instantly. From scenes to logic to overall execution, everything became meme material. Naturally, when the film arrived on Netflix, the expectation was clear. There will be a huge Round 2 of trolling.
Usually, OTT release means a fresh wave of reactions on social media again. More audience, more clips, more memes, and more trolls. Especially for a film that already faced heavy criticism in theatres, this is an unusual path that movie lovers follow. But something unexpected has happened here. There’s an absolute silence. Despite streaming now, there is barely any discussion around the film. No major trolling wave, no trending clips, no heated debates. Except for a few scattered posts, there’s nothing around Ustaad.
Because we’ve seen the opposite happen recently. Take Raja Saab’s digital release, and social media was flooded. Every frame was dissected, every flaw was spoken about, with meme pages having a field day for weeks. But Ustaad Bhagat Singh is not even getting that treatment. And that says a lot. Because trolling, in a strange way, still means engagement. It means people are watching, reacting, investing their time, even if it’s negative. Here in Ustaad’s case, it looks like even that is not happening.
This level of rejection happening for a Pawan Kalyan film is unusual, and Harish Shankar should think about it. Because Pawan could bounce back any day easily, but not the director.
