Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s last outing at the box office is “The Greatest of All Time (GOAT)”, which grossed a phenomenal ₹126+ crore on its release day back in 2024. Now that his next and last outing, Jana Nagayan, a remake of the Telugu film Bhagwant Kesari, is hitting cinemas, the trade is on cloud nine, as well as on its toes, because they are feeling stressed out about the openings. However, the film had already started to show its strength.

Three days before the release, Jana Nayagan is trending on BookMyShow with nearly 8.28K tickets sold in the last hour (at the time of writing this article at 12.30 PM, July 20). With more than 1.2 million people expressing their interest in going to the movie, one can understand the craze around Jana Nayagan. Popular cinemas in Chennai like Mayajaal at ECR, Vijay Park, Vels, and other theatres sold out many afternoon and evening shows to a houseful audience, while morning shows for July 23 are yet to open.

Going by this trend, it looks like Jana Nayagan will keep the trade on its toes, as it might open to the expected ₹100 crore gross on Day 1 itself with Tamil Nadu and the overseas market going crazy over the film. Many thought that Vijay’s rise to power as Chief Minister of the state, his lack of interest in cinema at the moment, and the ‘A’ certificate given to the movie would not help it post better collections, but it looks like things are the opposite of that.
