Directed by Gautham Tinnanuri, with Bhagyashree Bors as the heroine and produced by Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments, the film had everything going for it, high production values, music by Anirudh, and a massive fan following. Vijay’s fans were hoping for another blockbuster, but the results left many disappointed.
Even though there was a lot of buzz and the movie was shown in many theaters, Kingdom got mixed reactions and didn't do well at the box office. It didn't perform as expected in the Telugu states and reportedly led to losses for the people who distributed it. The big visuals, exciting action scenes, and famous actors couldn't save the movie from being called a failure. Both fans and movie critics talked a lot about whether the story and the way it was written matched the big scale of the project.
Now, the film is moving to OTT, arriving on Netflix on Vinayaka Chavithi, after just a 28-day theatrical run. The streaming release will be available in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. Interestingly, Netflix is releasing the original extended version of the film, not the censored version that played in theaters. The Hindi version is titled Samajwadi, offering a slightly different angle for audiences outside the South.
The big question remains: will Kingdom find redemption on OTT, or will it repeat its theatrical fate? Fans are curious to see how viewers respond to the extended version and whether the film’s star power can translate into streaming numbers. With digital audiences having different tastes, this release could give Kingdom a second life, or confirm that hype alone cannot make a hit.
