Despite captivating audiences with his diverse roles in films like the romantic comedy "Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal" and the villainous turn in the action thriller "Vikram," Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi finds himself in an interesting situation. As he gears up for the release of his upcoming crime suspense thriller "Maharaja," details from a recent promotional interview reveal a unique reason behind his decision to decline working with actress Krithi Shetty.

The crux of the issue lies in their previous film "Uppena," where Sethupathi played Krithi Shetty's father. The film's success, coupled with the on-screen dynamic, has created a barrier for Sethupathi. He explains, "When offered the film 'DSP,' I knew I couldn't act opposite Krithi Shetty as the heroine. In 'Uppena,' it wouldn't feel right to do romantic scenes with her on-screen. I even told the crew directly. During a tense scene in 'Uppena,' Krithi seemed hesitant. I told her, 'I have a son your age. Think of me as your father.' It felt strange to even consider a romantic pairing with someone I view as a daughter."

This isn't the first time Sethupathi has passed on projects due to this on-screen connection. After "Uppena," he declined two other films where Krithi was cast as his leading lady.

So, does this strong paternal bond on-screen limit Sethupathi's future collaborations with Krithi Shetty? "Maharaja," releasing on June 14th, sees him in the lead role alongside Nithilan (director), Anurag Kashyap, Abhirami, and Mamata. The recently released trailer has already garnered positive audience response. Will "Maharaja" further showcase Sethupathi's versatility, or will his decision to avoid on-screen romance with Krithi limit future projects? Only time will tell.
