Tamil Hero’s Directorial Debut Is A Nightmare
Adivi Sesh and Siddhu Jonnalagadda have been ghost-directing their films for a long time.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 18 Aug 2026 11:49 AM ISTIn recent times, many star heroes have taken the mantle of directing their films, and in Telugu, the latest happens to be Ram Pothineni, while the likes of Adivi Sesh and Siddhu Jonnalagadda have been ghost-directing their films for a long time. In Tamil, many like Kamal Haasan have directed many times, but among the latest, after RJ Balaji, it’s Vishal who took the risk.
After the exit of the film’s initial director, Ravi Arasu, Vishal has decided to direct the “Makutam” movie himself and played three leads in the movie, with three different getups. The film was released last Friday in theatres, and guess what, critics have outright rejected the movie. What about the audience? They did the same, as the movie grossed just ₹2 crores in its first weekend at the box office. That means the collections are a nightmare for the producers.
Had they recovered all the expenses already through digital, satellite and other rights, it would be fine. But otherwise, the film happens to be a massive pocket burner for the producer, and a blunder for Vishal to both direct and act. At a time when his career is not going the right way, surely these types of shockers further kill his stardom. Vishal should be very careful from now on.
