By: Tupaki Desk | 21 April 2025 10:39 AM ISTNot every star dares to flip the script at the peak of their stardom but Kannada actor Yash just did. The actor, best known for his mass image from KGF, is stepping into the shoes of mythology’s most complex villain: Raavana. And no, this isn’t a backup plan or a safe bet. It’s a power move. While many actors pick negative roles during career lulls, Yash is embracing one of Indian cinema's boldest transformations when his popularity is soaring. That’s what makes this casting shockingly brilliant.
Yash has officially kicked off the solo schedule for Ramayana in Mumbai this week. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the project is backed by Yash himself under Monster Mind Creations alongside DNEG. The filming is starting with sequences focused entirely on Raavana’s arc, using grand sets and next-level VFX to bring the Lanka king’s world to life. Before the shoot, Yash also made a quiet spiritual visit to the Mahakaleshwar temple, perhaps grounding himself before stepping into the intense role.
The cast for this epic includes some of the finest names in Indian cinema Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, who will begin filming in June. The Ramayana saga is being made in two parts, with Part 1 arriving in theatres for Diwali 2026 and Part 2 following in Diwali 2027. With Yash taking part in the creative process too, the film is shaping up to be more than just a mythological retelling it’s aiming to be a pan-Indian, global visual event.
Meanwhile, Yash is also balancing his action thriller Toxic, slated to hit screens on March 19, 2026. Two high-profile roles, one mythological and one modern, coming in the same year this move could redefine Yash’s cinematic journey. Whether audiences cheer or challenge his Raavana, one thing’s certain he’s rewriting the rules of stardom his way.
