Toxic’s Opening Day: Will Records Break?

Finally, after a couple of postponements, most hyped superstar Yash’s latest outing, “Toxic”, is hitting cinemas on August 26th. The recently released trailer has truly stunned the audience, and the Hindi version alone has garnered 31 million views already, while Telugu and Tamil versions fetched 12 million views each. That proves the film is running high on hype, but what is to be seen is how much will turn that into ‘collections’ on First Day.

If we look at Yash’s last outing, KGF Chapter 2, the super hyped sequel of his KGF, the first film of the star that stunned the nation, the openings are great. KGF Chapter 2’s worldwide opening was around the ₹165 crore range. However, if we look at other films that came around the same time, Baahubali 2 grossed more than ₹210 crores, and Pushpa 2 touched almost ₹290 crores. At the same time, other Telugu movies like RRR also opened with more than ₹200 crores gross on its release day.

But then Dhurandhar 2 has shocked the world after it didn’t match Pushpa 2’s figures. While Dhurandhar 1 opened with ₹40 crores, Dhurandhar 2 was welcomed with ₹240+ crores gross on Day 1. So hype and craze might turn or might not turn into collections on Day 1, but surely Toxic has to break records or create new ones, for the kind of budgets involved. We have to wait for a week more to find out what happens.

Directed by Geethu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash in a double or possibly triple action, with a galaxy of stars including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth playing crucial roles.
