10% Reservation For Poor Among Upper Castes
By: Tupaki Desk | 7 Jan 2019 11:55 AM GMTIn a historic decision, The Union Government on Monday approved 10 percent reservations in jobs and educational institutions for the economically weaker sections in the General Category. This reservation have nothing to do with the existing 50 percent reservation.
10 percent Reservation is meant for economically backward people among the Upper Castes who aren't availing reservation until now. Annual income of the family should be under Rs 8 lakh and having less than 5 acres of land is a must to avail this reservation.
On Tuesday, Centre could be bringing a constitutional amendment bill in Parliament. Articles 15 and 16 of the constitution has to be amended for the implementation of the decision. The real challenge for NDA Government would be passing the Bill in Rajya Sabha.
Poor in the Upper Castes have always expressed disappointment over losing out on opportunities due to lack of reservation. This historic move by the Centre could be an answer to the problems faced by the economically weaker sections in the General Category. If BJP could clear the Bill in both the house of Parliament, Narendra Modi will have a huge advantage ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha Polls.
