16 Deaths per Hour on Indian Roads

In 2014 alone, 4.5 lakh road accidents took place. While 1.4 lakh people died, around 4.8 lakh people sustained injuries.
Maximum number of deaths were recorded in states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan. About 37% of accidents took place due to over-speeding, leading to 48,654 death.
Shockingly, About 32 percent of deaths among Paramilitary Personnel occurred due to road accidents. Only 7% of deaths due to anti-terrorist operations.
When it comes to fatalities on expressways, Telangana is leading with 279 deaths out of 1,802 in the country and that's 15.5% of the total fatalities.
