1999 Coal Scam Case: Special Court Convicts Former Union Minister Dilip Ray And Two Others

The special court convicted them on the grounds of irregularities that took place while allocating the Jharkhand Coal block to a private firm in an inefficient manner back in 1999.
Ray, the then Minister of State(coal) was convicted for the criminal conspiracy, while the two other convicted are the senior officials' of the Ministry of Coal.
The special court will pronounce the verdict on the quantum of sentence on October 14th.
The Coal allocation scam, popularly known as Coalgate is a major scam where the nation's coal deposits were allocated to private companies. In 1999, the Brahmadiha coal block located in Giridih in Jharkhand was allocated to the CTL company.
