24,000 children testing positive for Covid in AP an indication of third wave?

India is struggling to fight the ongoing second wave of Covid pandemic. Cases and getting increased in big numbers. While the second wave is ringing danger bells across the country, a few states are reportedly experiencing the third wave.

The way Andhra Pradesh is seeing children below the age group of 18 getting infected with the deadly virus has raised the doubts that, has the third wave hit the state.

Over the past two weeks, Andhra Pradesh reported around 2.3 lakh cases, out of which 23,920 were below 18. 2,209 children below the age group of five, which is a major area of concern.

Media reports claimed that East Godavari, the severely hit region had reported the highest number of infections among children with as many as 4,200 cases, followed by Chittor with 3,800 cases.

The other state that was hit by the third wave is Maharashtra. The Ahmednagar city has reported as many as 8,000 cases among children. Around 95 percent of them are asymptomatic.

Experts had warned that the children are most vulnerable to the virus and if timely precautions and measures were not taken, the situation will turn more problematic.

Following this, the Andhra Pradesh government had swung into action and special wards are being arranged to see that children receive the required treatment.
