24% MPs & MLAs don't even pay Income Tax

Whereas, 75% of MPs and MLAs claims their annual earnings were less than Rs 10 lakh. While 35% of Lawmakers say their annual income is less than 2.5 lakh, 40% declare their annual income between Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said India can be declared as Tax Non-Compliant Society based on this data. '3.7 crore people out of 130 crore population have died Tax Returns in 2015-16. About 9.9 million people (27%) declared their annual income is below Rs 2.5 lakh. 19.5 million people (53%) declared their annual income between Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. 7.6 million (20%) declared their annual income of above Rs 5 lakh,' says Centre.
While 72% BJP and Congress Lawmakers declared they earn less than Rs 10 lakh. 83% of Samajwadi Party MPs, 80% of BJD MPs, 78% of AIADMK MPs and 68% of TDP MPs claims their annual earnings were less than Rs 10 lakh.
