Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram which has gold worth over Rs 1 lakh crore is in the news again. Former chief government auditor Vinod Rai's report says 266 kgs of gold had been missed from Padmanabhaswamy temple. This was revealed by Rai in his audit report submitted to the apex court.

The report which was leaked to media says that total 893 kg gold was given out for various works, but only 627 kg has been returned to temple.Last year Supreme Court asked Rai to conduct an audit of the temple's accounts and properties for the past quarter of a century.

The century old temple has been the royal family temple of the Travancore kings who ruled southern part of Kerala. The temple has been in the news lately after its vaults, opened on the orders of the Supreme Court, revealed treasures worth over Rs 1,00,000 crore.The government is spending over Rs 1 crore on the security of the temple every month.
