3 Major Parties Skip Sonia Gandhi's Meeting
By: Tupaki Desk | 22 May 2020 6:42 AM GMTThe Congress-sponsored 19-opposition parties meet via videoconferencing has lost quite a bit of fizz with three powerful satraps ignoring it. Both the Samajwadi Party of Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati's BSP have announced that they would stay away from the meet.
This only means that the Congress cannot hope to revive itself in the all-important Uttar Pradesh. Both the parties have been keeping the Congress party at an arms length in the state. As a result, the Congress could win only one MP seat in 2019. The lone winner is Sonia Gandhi. Her son and the then party president Rahul Gandhi bit the dust in family burrough of Amethi.Similarly, another strong regional party, Aam Admi Party, which has won a landslide in Delhi recently, too has not shown any interest in the meet. The party has of late moved closer to the Central Government. So, it felt there is no use in the Congress sponsored meet.
The only silver lining is that Shiv Sena, which has hither to not joined the UPA, will attend the meeting. Party chief and Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and party spokesperson Sanjay Raut are attending the meeting.
