3 Reasons Why BJP Failed in Trust Vote
By: Tupaki Desk | 19 May 2018 11:18 AM GMTBS Yeddyurappa failed in the floor test happened at Karnataka Assembly and tendered his resignation as the Chief Minister.
Current strength of Karnataka Assembly is 221. Any Party which have a majority of 111 seats could form the Government. While BJP managed to get 104 Seats in the Assembly Polls, Congress-JD (S) combine have 115 Seats.
BJP could have easily won the Floor Test had if it managed to do any one of these three things correctly....
1) Ensuring at least 7 MLAs of Congress and JD (S) defy their party whip.
2) Majority will be decided based on the count of members present in the House and voting during Floor Test, not based on the actual strength of Assembly. Either BJP could have abstained at least few Opposition MLAs from voting or made them skip the Floor Test.
3) If BJP succeeded in making few Opposition MLAs resign, The effective strength of the Assembly reduces to make the job easy for it. To make it work, Automatic acceptance of resignation is the key.
