Cricket is one of the widely followed sports in India and sport lovers consider Cricket as a religion. India lifting the first World Cup in 1983 still remains the iconic moment and the trophy has changed the people's perception towards the game.

Exactly 38 years on this day, India won its first World Cup Trophy. In the nail-biting match, India defeated the star-studded West Indies team in the finals and lifted the Trophy.

The Team India led by Haryana Hurricane Kapil Dev had entered the World Cup as underdogs and achieved what seemed impossible. Even fans didn't have hopes that India will make it to the finals.

Despite reaching the fans, no one felt that India will win the trophy, given the dominance displayed by the West Indies team during that time. The West Indies had won two consecutive trophies and West Indies fans are confident that the team will win the third cup too.

In the finals, West Indies has won the toss and put India to bat first. West Indies bowlers restricted India to 183 runs. India taking the wicket of Vivian Richards was the game-changing moment that shifted the momentum towards India.

To lift the second World Cup Trophy, India had to wait for 28 hours. Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the second Indian skipper after Kapil Dev to have won the glorious trophy.
