"5 Games That Transcend the Language Barrier"
By: Tupaki Desk | 12 April 2020 3:30 AMLet's say you are in a room with a person who belongs to a different country and cannot speak your language. It is quite evident that you two will not be successful at having a constructive conversation without any aid. However, an absence of communication does not mean there are no possibilities of interaction. Guess what comes to our rescue? Games that transcend the language barrier.
The internet allows people from different ends of the world to play online games such as chess, pool and rummy online anywhere anytime and with anyone at the click of a button. Here are 5 most popular online games.
Card Games
Usually played with a single deck of 52 cards grouped into four suits namely Spades, Clubs, Hearts and Diamonds, there are a variety of card games that can be played by multiple players and even with the computer. These games are broadly categorised as trick-taking, matching, shedding, catch and collect, fishing, comparing, solitaire, and so on.
Popular card games include Bridge, Indian Rummy, Teen Patti, Poker, etc. If you are a rummy enthusiast, then choose the best platform and start to play rummy online.
Chess
Chess is a strategy board game played by two players on a checkerboard consisting of 64 squares arranged in an 8x8 grid format. When it comes to games that cross the language barrier, chess is one of the oldest games. Chess is believed to have Indian roots and is said to have originated from the game 'chaturanga' around the 7th century.
Each player starts with an army of 16 pieces out of which 8 are pawns that stand together in one row just ahead of the two castles, two knights, two bishops and a King and a Queen which are also placed in a single row, i.e. the last row, in a symmetrical fashion.
Each piece has its unique way of moving on the checkerboard, and the game is played by knocking down pieces of the opponent by replacing them with yours. The player that cannot save his King anymore loses the match.
8 Ball Pool
Eight-ball pool is played with cue sticks and a set of sixteen balls comprising fifteen object balls, which include seven single-coloured balls, seven striped balls and the black eight ball and a white cue ball. Once a break shot is made to scatter the balls, the players are assigned either the group of striped balls or the solid ones after a ball from a specific group gets pocketed legally.
The ultimate aim of a player is to pocket all the balls from his/her assigned group. Once they do that, then only can they legally pocket the eight ball (black ball) to win the game.
Ludo
The name Ludo is a Latin word meaning 'I play', and the game is a strategy board game that can be played by two, three or four players. The game is derived from the Indian game of Pachisi but is a much simpler version of the game. It involves four tokens for each player, who are differentiated by the colour of their tokens.
The casting of a dice determines the movement of the tokens throughout their specified course on the board. The goal of a player is to bring all his tokens out into the game. The player who brings all the four tokens to the finish first wins the game.
Fantasy Cricket
Fantasy cricket apps are immensely popular nowadays, special thanks to the IPL (Indian Premier League). The fantasy cricket concept is pretty straightforward. Even the layman can understand it easily.
Fantasy cricket is a virtual cricket game where you select your own fantasy cricket team from the two teams playing a real-life match on the ground and your team scores points depending on how your players perform in the real game.
Itâs perfectly legal to play fantasy cricket games in India because itâs a skill game in which the user/participant selects their own team by using their analytical skills and knowledge of cricket. Apart from playing free matches, participants also invest money to play cash fantasy cricket matches and win huge cash prizes.
Conclusion
Thus, we see how games transcend the language barrier. Even though people across the world have diverse origins and cultures, and cannot often understand each other due to language differences, they can still share a sense of oneness by actively interacting through games. Games are not bound by the chains of a particular language, culture or tradition.
