Team India has won many series and trophies but the wins recorded overseas will always be special. If the win is registered against the mighty England it is going to be very special.
One such memorable win was recorded by India back in 1971, the first time when India defeated England in England. Exactly today, fifty years ago India scripted a great victory.
India had won the series against England when the English team was ruling the game with back to back wins. Defeating England on home soil seemed next to impossible for any team.
But the Indian team led by skipper Ajit Wadekar defeated England. India had lifted the cup with 1-0 when the first two matches resulted in a draw.
The iconic Oval Stadium has witnessed history with the Indian guns achieving what the other big cricketing nations didn't even dream of.
B.S.Chandrasekhar was the hero for India with the ball in the test series. In the final match, he had claimed his six-wicket haul for 38 runs.
After taking batting first, England had posted a mammoth score of 355 in their first innings and restricted India to 284. With a lead of 71, England started their second innings but was restricted to a low score by the Indian bowling attack.
However, the England team at the end did not give up and fought fiercely. But the Indian team had managed to score runs despite the main batsmen losing their wickets for less runs.
