Stamp Scam kingpin Telgi dies

He is suffering from various health issues like diabetes, hypertension and meningitis. Last week, He was rushed to hospital due to breathing issues.
In 2001, Telgi was arrested in Ajmer of Rajasthan. He had 36 properties and more than 100 bank accounts by the time of arrest. Six years later, He was sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment in the fake stamp papers scam. The court had also imposed a penalty of Rs 202 crore on him.
From 1993 to 2002, Telgi was behind printing of fake stamp papers in the government security press in Nashik. He then sold them for a discount price to banks, insurance firms and brokerage firms. Even Government Officials helped him in the plan of projecting shortage of stamp papers and supplying fake ones.
Telgi was serving his jail sentence at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. Recently, His name featured along with VK Sasikala Natarajan for receiving undue favors in the prison. Against the rules, Jail Authorities were accused of providing 3-4 helpers to offer massage to his legs and shoulder.
