Since the novel Coronavirus originated from the Wuhan province of China has entered India, the doctors and other medical staff treating the patients became more vulnerable to the virus. Some doctors have contacted the virus and succumbed to it.

The Indian Medical Association(IMA) said, so far, at least 500 doctors have died due to the novel Coronavirus in the country. Around half of the claims were settled by the government to compensate the doctors who succumbed to the virus.

Talking about the same, Indian Medical Association(IMA) President Dr. Rajan Sharma said, according to the latest data around 515 Covid-19 doctors have lost their lives treating the patients.

He added that these doctors were identified by the data collected by the 1,746 IMA branches across the country and all of them were allopathic doctors. The actual count might be high, he said.

As per the data provided by the IMA database, the ratio of doctor-patient is 1:194. 201 Doctors under the age group of 60 and 70 years succumbed to the virus.

The doctors between the age group of 50 to 60 witnessed the second-highest fatalities with 171, while 66 doctors above the group of 70 years and 59 doctors between the age group of 35 to 50 lost their lives. Not less than 18 doctors under 35 years succumbed to the virus.

IMA President Dr. Sharma found fault with the government for not maintaining a database to tell th exact count of Covid-19 doctors who succumbed to the virus on duty.
