According to TDP, it has won in panchayat polls
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Feb 2021 7:51 AM GMTThe ruling YSRCP is on Cloud Nine over the verdict of the polling in the first phase of the panchayat elections. It has reasons to be happy because it has won over 82 per cent of the seats out of the 3249 panchayats that went to polls. It roughly is same as that of the results of the 2019 assembly elections.
But, the pro-TDP media and the TDP too are exulting. They are also celebrating their victory. Sounds funny, doesn't it? The TDP is happy that its success percentage has gone up from 13 per cent in 2019 assembly elections to 18 per cent in the first phase. The pro-TDP media is working back calculations and is trying to arrive at 37 per cent success rate. Their argument sounds funny as they are deducting the unanimous elections from the tally. The fact is that the TDP does not have much to cheer. In many places, the TDP candidates have won by extremely small margins.
The party is also planning to highlight its performance in Rayalaseema and especially Kadapa. The party was completely wiped out in Rayalaseema in 2019. This time, it has marginally improved. Ditto with Kadapa, where the YSRCP had swept in 2019. Practically, the first phase results have shown that the YSRCP base is very much in tact. But, the TDP wants to sell a different story to the Telugu people.
