He was once the heartthrob of Bollywood and was called 'Poorman's Amitabh Bachchan.' His looks, dance and the daring stunts wowed countless people. Yes. We are talking about actor Mithun Chankraborty. In his heyday, Mithun was hugely popular. Despite staying in Bangaluru and despite ageing, he is still very popular in West Bengal.
On Thursday, he created a flutter when he visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. He not just visited the RSS headquarters, but bowed reverentially to the statue of Dr Hedgewar, the founder of the RSS. What's so big, even Dr Abdul Kalam did it, one might ask. But, Mithun Da's visit is interesting because he is a Trinamool Congress Party member and a former Rajya Sabha MP. His visit could mean that this Naxal-turned-film actor-turned-politician is joining the BJP. With elections round the corner in West Bengal, Mithun Da's visit is being seen as a very significant move. He had also held discussions with the top leaders of the RSS, including its chief Mohan Bhagwat.
The BJP, which has won 18 out of 42 MP seats in the Lok Sabha elections is giving a torrid time to the ruling Trinamool. The party wants to defeat her this time and is making a serious bid by roping in big names.
